Interesting and lesser known dog breeds! Part 1

I always get excited when I come across a dog breed that I've never heard of before. My own dog is quite and interesting breed and I know that whenever someone asks what her breed is, they would have never heard of a Kokoni before and I feel obliged to go into a story explaining that the breed originates from Greece and she's from Romania, that she is intelligent and has a similar coat and curled up tail to a border collie but has stubby legs like she is crossed with a corgi. I recently came across a breed called a Duck Toller, and did some research on those which led me in thinking it would be interesting to write some posts on some more lesser known dog breeds. We've all heard of Labradors and Dalmatians but have you heard of a Catalburun or an Otterhound? Let's get into it!

I have to start this post off with the Kokoni! The name literally translates to 'small dog' in Greek. They are a small to medium size and range in size from approximately 4 to 10 kilograms, with an average height around 29 centimeters. They have dropped ears, a short snout, and a long body, with a fluffy and curled over tail. This breed comes in a variety of colors and combinations of colors and they have a double coat. Incredibly loyal and easily trainable, Kokoni's remain to be popular companion dogs in Greece and Cyprus, but they are not well known to the rest of the world. For this reason, they are not yet acknowledged by any kennel clubs but the breed is officially recognised by the Greek Kennel Club. Below are some more interesting dog breeds:

Norwegian Lundehund: The Norwegian Lundehund is a small and agile spitz-type dog known for its unique features, including six toes on each foot and the ability to tip its head backward to touch its spine. Originally bred to hunt puffins, it's a rare and fascinating breed.

Thai Ridgeback: Originally from Thailand, the Thai Ridgeback is a medium-sized dog known for the distinctive ridge of hair along its back that runs in the opposite direction to the rest of the coat. They are intelligent, independent, and loyal.

Cirneco dell'Etna: From Sicily, the Cirneco dell'Etna is a small hound breed known for its elegant appearance and rabbit-hunting skills. With a slender build and large, expressive ears, it's an ancient breed with a keen sense of smell.

Peruvian Inca Orchid: The Peruvian Inca Orchid, or Peruvian Hairless Dog, is an ancient breed known for its hairless appearance. They come in three sizes and can have a coated variety. In addition to their unique look, they are often revered for their loyalty.

Bracco Italiano: The Bracco Italiano is an ancient Italian pointing breed known for its strong, muscular build and distinctive long ears. Originally bred for hunting, it's a versatile and friendly companion.
